Хрен его знает, измерить нечем :-) От количества пикселей зависеть будет, т.к. через каждый из них по сути ток идёт и электроны этого тока врезаются в люминофор, чем его и заставляют светиться. Только что в руках вертел подобный экранчик поменьше, размером с обычный 1602 - там вполне чётко на лабораторнике было видно, как растёт потребление от количества пикселей.

Do you mean the tiny figure in this video? Or a proper 1:3 scale BJD? Though the answer is yes to both :-)

It's not an LED display but a plasma panel. Presumably yes, it came from an old bus, as I've seen something similar on a very old one near Ebetsu and thought "wow this must be a tired LED panel with the unlit pixels being so bright" - and then realized it's not LED. But that's the only time I've seen one in the wild.

About half a meter wide, the screen area itself is like 350x60mm though

That's the exact reason I've worked to reuse the original driver board, it's a bit tedious. Think like a 1616-digit nixie, or an array of 1616 neon lightbulbs :-) The design process also didn't literally exist, I was just wiring things together on a whim and building a case in a similar fashion, without ever thinking ahead ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've changed it actually after filming to stuff in windspeed. FWIW I might just put up windspeed instead of the humidity and place the humidity in the scroller. I rarely need to know the pressure (and at that I usually need the trend and not the value), and I don't ever remember wondering about the humidity. The feels like column might also have to go. But for now I'm super tired of this project and don't want to touch it for the next year anymore :P

Thank you very much for the kind words If I had a way to get those plasma panels en masse I would think about it. But really the whole project was done on a whim, no schematics exist, and the only drawings of the case are just a few post-its where I was checking what size I need to ask the clerk to cut my lumber into and how much woodgrain film to buy (and I messed up anyway) There isn't much architecture to the code so wiring more things into it might prove difficult. The graphics side of things is kinda portable though... As long as your display is an integer multiple of 101x16 and lays out the framebuffer horizontally :-) Not sure if LEDs would look as good?

On a sidenote I've found a few tiny VFDs from arcade cabinets, so I'm considering making a pocket version of this. With a taptic engine instead of the buzzer for the ticking sound :-)

This one was a miracle, I got it from Yahoo for around 9000 yen in total. Sadly the original control board (8085 based) was dead and covered in lacquer, and the drive board of the tube needed some repairs too. But now it's safe for quite some time, I'll post a new video once I'm done with the firmware, so please subscribe and stay tuned! :-)

There is no disk in the device so it will be renamed to PIS-OS. And since it's designed for a display device that lets you see things, the slogan will be "So see... PIS-OS!"

Yes I agree, it stands for Plasma Information System - DOS. However, since there is no disk in the thing, I'll probably change the final firmware version to just be called PIS-OS.

It is a genuine plasma (or nixie, not sure how to tell them apart) tube. I have no idea of the type, but it seems to be from an old bus or train, given the burned in characters. @@app0the It's a gas plasma display. Nixie tubes used shaped numerals that glows. This is a flat panel with pixels, hence no Nixie.
